Oh no!

I'm terribly sad to hear of that, he really was such a nice guy. I don't really use Facebook at all, so I missed the news entirely. I'll raise a drink to him.

Sorry to hear this Dom. We've had a few chats over the years online and he only retired a year or two ago. :-(

Howdy all, anyone still alive in these post apocalyptic times? Life has shut down here in Germany, no public gatherings of more than two, working from home, kids going nuts by only allowed in the garden and no friends to play with. I hear the UK is heading the same way.

I haven't been photographing much the last few years. Work has been nuts and then coming home to three kids and a stay at home wife drains what little energy I have left. But, life moves on, kids are a bit older and I hope to head out a bit more often this year.

Hope all is well on your end.

Much the same here Dennis, though we can go out for exercise and essential shopping.
On the plus side I've been able to edit some shots I've never done before. Here is a selection of newish stuff I've not posted before and edited old stuff.

With the current lockdown guidelines we decided to take our hours exercise this morning at sunrise on the beach.

Hi everyone,
Hard to believe it's been a year since the last post on here. I remember when there would be a post a minute. :(

I have a question for those that are still doing photography. Is anyone looking to switch to the mirrorless EOS R system? I'm thinking about getting back into photography again a bit more regularly and my 5D2 is probably as close to obsolete as possible. I've been trawling secondhand markets and there's a lot to choose from at reasonabe prices, also with lens prices dropping a lot. As it looks like Canon is dropping the EF mount, I'm wondering if it's worth switching now, at high cost but while my 2nd hand gear has some value, or wait until the R systems get some second hand gear out there. A 5D4 is already 5 years old and I can't see a 5D5 coming out. Already, the R5 and R6 seem to be it's direct replacement. Alternatively, what would stop me from defecting to Sony or Nikon if I have to replace the body and lens line up?

Of course, all of this is a bit theoretical at the moment. Took my camera gear to Venice last week with the family and took 90% of the photos with my phone and I haven't even touched the ones on the 5D. Photographing two handed when kids are runnign around is problematic. A camera phone can't do everything but I wonder if it's worth investing thousands in gear that I'll use only when I'm away from the kids.

I’ve used the EOS R and it’s a nice camera the touch auto focus works a treat, basically you can tap the screen and it’ll focus on that spot and shoot. I’ve not used the R5/R6 but someone I know has one and says the eye auto focus is really good and it all but presses the shutter for you. I’m tempted by a R5 when funds allow as it’s streets ahead of my 5D2 and 5Ds and with the adapter ring I will be able to use my EF glass till I can get the RF equivalent. The RF glass is so much better than the EF as well.
