Hi chaps - been a little busy lately at work and I think my shutter finger has forgotten how to operate that little round button...

Some absolutely cracking shots on here the last few weeks - too many to name, so a general "well done!" to all!

14th December looks promising, will know closer to the time.

I've just been given a copy of Lightroom 2 to get me started on the whole RAW thing... think I'm going to do both JPEG & RAW now.

Rechargeable battery question - which ones - mine seem to be ok in my studio for about an hour then they start to slow down a bit… I've got someone coming for a whole day next week so I need them last longer really… - for my speed lights sorry - meant to say that … so AA and AAA for the Cactus V5s which now seem to have got over their tantrums.

I just use the 7dayshop (external link) ones for flash work. They seem to last for hours and generally go from working fine to dead, so no real slow down. Depends on settings you're using of course. I generally shoot at 1/4 to 1/8th power on the flashes.

Also get one of these form Maplin (external link) fast charger, also works in the car.

Be carful though the batteries do get a little warm so just allow a little while for them to cool, it is quick at charging makes a little noise because of the fan.

I get Duracell 2450mAh from ebay for my speedlites. I find these great and reasonably cheap in bulk.

Thanks Kev, Richard and Martin - I will have a look at all those. The fast charger is a great idea too.

Lots of silly stuff in my studio today

^ Hah, cute pics!

Question: planning to get some calendars printed with my pics as Christmas gifts -- what are some good places for them? I'm looking at Photobox -- quite pricey at almost £20 each (discounted to about £15 each for 10). Tried Vistaprint - quite a bit cheaper but a lot of my files are deemed too big for uploading by them. Any others that are good?

I bought the exact same charger from 7dayshop a couple of years ago. I used it about 3 times and on the final time it ruined one of the batteries it was charging (it was leaking everywhere). Beyond that, it's worrying how hot the batteries get while charging, and it was really noisy too. I now have a pair of 8x chargers (I can't find them online anymore, but they look like this (external link)) that work great. Your experience may vary of course ;)

Ditto as well, lovely shot.

I'm surprised you're having shutter speed issues with the dogs Penel, you're using flash right? If you cut out the ambient light the flash should just freeze everything happily in place regardless of the shutter speed.

Is anyone else up for the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park on the 14th? I was thinking of meeting up around 2-3ish, taking a few photos before it gets too dark by 4:30 and then having a beer or two. I suspect it will be hellishly busy though...
