Calling all A series geeks

Now I have your attention. My daughter has a Canon A610 and is currently using a 1GB card. The canon web site says that they have tested it to 2GB. If these cameras use FAT32 is could address 32 Megabytes. But since the Canon lines uses the datalight ROM-DOS and they have FAT32/16/12, and they recommend FAT16 for compact flash. It may be that the Canon cameras are actually using FAT32 which means it can only go to 2GB.

Has anyone tried a card larger than 2GB on any Canon P&S?

You have some inconsistencies in your statements - in particular saying that FAT32 can address 32 MB in one place and then later saying it can only go to 2 GB.

So far as I know, the primary limitation on FAT32 is that it cannot support a single file of greater than 4.3 GB.

Is there some reason why flash memory does not follow the rules that other types of memory follow?

Flash memory only runs on a maximum of fat 32. It cannot run as a NTFS. Just thought i'd throw that in as well. Fat 16/32 are both compatable with each other but NTFS which XP uses is not with the older DOS.

So if canon is using FAT32 it should have no problem with 4GB cards. But has anyone tried it?
