This is a JPEG straight out of camera, with no editing other than resizing. Would you edit this photo, and how ?

Great Exposure but its a snap shot. No pose or expression from the subject.

I edit almost every image that interests me to do so.. Snapshot or not.. If it's an image you think you may want to save, I say give it a go..

In this case, if you like the image to begin with, perhaps just crop out some of the surrounding distractions to bring attention to the subject..

Disagree with -AP- on two points:

1. Why would you want to burn colors like that? Now it looks unnatural and dirty. You could bring in couple points of clarity, make a face a bit pop, but this here is overdone. There is no need for drama.
2. New crop made it worse. If before there was a space for her look, now it looks like she's staring into a wall. Let her look breath.

As for overall CC - it looks good SOOC, could be among 40 images from the trip to the park, but nothing spectacular.

If I did anything at all, it would be to open up the shadows a bit and add a slight vignette to allow the girl to stand out from the bg a little more.

Thanks for all the replies / suggestions.

I am working on getting usable SOOC Jpegs so that I didn't have to process all shots. Other than composition, looks like the colors and exposure were good ? I will process it eventually, slightly sharpen, blur the background, and open up some shadows - the tree and the hair, but the purple parts of the crown need to stay dark, I think. Adding some vignetting I is also a great idea.

It's just my personal opinion but I still think the image looks better when the tree and the girl plus crown are seperated rather than so dark everything blends into darkness at the back of her head.

Of course, none of this helps the OP with: "I am working on getting usable SOOC Jpegs so that I didn't have to process all shots..." but it's fun to practice our pp anyway. ;)

That's a great edit too ND… :)

It seems to me the shot just requires a little subject isolation or "less distracting" elements such as the peeps on the bench and the vehicle to the right. Of course I have no idea what's to the right of the girl (or behind her left shoulder), but perhaps she could have turned her head a little and the OP could have angled the shot to exclude the peeps and wait for there to be no vehicles in the background. I often find myself waiting for the right moment to hit the shutter. All assuming this was a loosely "posed" or planned shot..

With no input from the OP, but with recent thoughts on this shot...
