I have 6D + 24-105 as my walk around kit for environmental portraits of my family in interesting locations. The kit is perfect however too big for certain locations. So I am considering a wide prime to reduce profile of my camera in some places. Usage of different focal length using 24-105 in last 4 outdoor outings shows following pattern:
- 24mm: 17%
- 28-35mm: 36%
- 40-50mm: 23%
- >50mm: 24%
(Surprisingly no pic in 25-27mm and 36-39mm)
Therefore I am looking at 35mm f2 or 40mm f2.8 lenses, so that it covers middle 60% band, ie 28mm to 50mm. I am not considering L lenses or IS version of wide primes (canon) due cost.
There are number of posts on these two lenses. Both are sharp at f2.8. My questions are:
1. How are two compared in macro contrast & colour with respect to (wrt) each other and wrt 24-105mm (I dont spend too much time on PP)
2. Will EF 40 mm at f2.8 give reasonable separation (maintaining some background detail) for envirommental portraits. Kindly show me example of both lenses at f2.8 with landscape/ townscape/ room in the background
3. Is out of focus details of 35mm at f2.8 ok ( at f2 the bokeh is quite busy as reported in test reports)
Thanks in advance for your replies
