The game will last 5 Days (usually it's 7) and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.
Feel free to comment and/or ask questions at any time. This is a good competition for learning new methods, so let's make it a bit more dynamic. I will be judging edits, not comments. Feel free to comment on the original image as well.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #485".

Submissions end, Wednesday, Aug 21, 2013 at 9:00 PM (NE time GMT-5) and a winner will be announced.

Oooops. Pretty sure I've had that checked yes since day one.
Oh well. All fixed now.

Thanks.

Really awesome capture. This is one of those images that can have it's colors changed to complement whatever wall color it might be placed onto. I have a dark slate wall in my office that would make these colors really stand out.

Adjusted exposure, whites, shadows and highlights in Camera Raw then in CS6, cropped and straightened, duplicated BG, put in multiply mode at 75% opacity, new layer filled 50% grey in overlay mode to tinker with the bright bits. Cloned out bird and horizon distraction, Smart sharpened to finish

same idea, different method.
Before using Photoshop to blend layers at different opacity, I used LR to increase clarity, change colors, then export as different file names.
At the end of it all i made the red light brighter.

Took it into Topaz Adjust and used setting Exposure color stretch. Then back into light room and adjusted the light setting in Tone Curve by a few notches, cropped. That's it.

I took the beautiful orange and reds then destroyed them.

Put it into LR and cropped a bit off the top then exported to Silver Effex Pro. Used a standard preset. Exported to photoshop for some sharpening, added a high pass as an overlay then exported for web. Also cloned out the bird and the boats on the horizon.

Time to pick the winning entry!!!

Honestly, for such a simple photo, everyone really made this tough to decide.

Drumroll...............

This weeks before and after winner is.....

Dawicka2!! Congrats.
I loved the way you brought out the rays from the sun and the colors. I felt you really captured the feeling of the sun rise.
Great job.

I'm not going to lie, mannetti21, Pax2You, and NigelD could have easily won as well.
Thank you everyone for your contributions.

Dawicka2, YOU'RE UP!!!
