I recently learned that RRS made a flip lever QR that worked with all arca swiss bezels. the great things about this lever is it's self-adjusting and more importantly it allows me to use plates from other manufacturers instead of only RRS and wimberly (sp)! I love that!
so now I have the parts coming to make a universal L bracket that (I hope)can be attached to any DSLR quickly without tools on the occasions that I am shooting in portrait orientation. L bracket and QR cost me $48.80. I won't need to spend up to $200 on camera specific L brackets anymore.
here's another example of choice. I recently paid through the nose for an OEM canon tripod collar for my 70-300L and of course I needed an arca swiss plate. the RRS plate to my front door would cost me $65. after spending $175 for the tripod ring I wasn't liking that! this is when I sold my first generation RRS flip lever QR and bought the adjustable QR....took about a $50 hit there.
on ebay I found a plate for the tripod ring that now works perfectly and it only cost me $10 delivered!
