It's not often I catch my favorite male Costas hummingbird in the sun.

One more just as he took off. Naturally, he's in shade here.

Thanks very much. This male has been hanging out all summer protecting my (his) feeder. He's typically around in the morning and late afternoon and there are a couple of intruders he deals with throughout the day. There's been a male Anna's coming to the feeder in the afternoon but he's very skittish and flies off if I make any motion at all. The Costas allows me to get very close. sunbathing2 Gene - My Photo Gallery ||

Thanks so much. The shots in the sun were pretty vibrant but my favorite from today is the one where he's in flight. Its my new desktop wallpaper at 2560x1440. Gene - My Photo Gallery ||

As I mentioned, it isn't often that the bush the Costas likes to perch on is in the sun since he prefers the shade so it was great to have everything fall in place for me...
