It has always been a goal of mine, one day to reach the front page of 500px. This site is so filled with talent, it often makes me think my work is bad and should stop doing business (Ok not so much, but you get the idea).

I did some steel whool self-portrait of my girlfriend and I in the water two days ago. I posted it on 500px about 20h ago and went to sleep, hoping to score a good one... and it worked! Woke up to it with a score of 97, in the first ten pages.

A couple of hours later I am now the 4th pictures all the way on top with a score of 99,7. I know I don't win anything or make money out of it, but it's still personnal satisfaction to be up there with all the (mostly) amazing and wonderful pictures.

Here's the picture in question and the 500px link if you ever want to give me some love too:

Did you had any similar story or am I the only one who had the front page as one of his goal?

No similar story... but that's a great pic and I wanted to say so. I could never get my wife to agree to do something like that. Seems a bit dangerous.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Actually, not a lot, a friend was spinning the steel whool around 5 feet behind us, wind was going from right to left. We didn't receive any hot sparks at all.

Exactly what I wanted to say. The complementary colors really make this picture awesome.

Very cool! And, it's great that you could get the shot using photographic creativity instead of depending on a ton of post-processing, something that I'd say is not the "common factor" in a place like 500px!

Thanks Tony, I appreciate that. Only basic PP was done in Lightroom, almost "as-is" in camera.

Finally I made it all the way to the second picture on the home page, scoring a great 99,8. Quite happy I must say!

Congrats, man! I actually did see that on the front page yesterday! That really is a great idea perfectly executed!

Great shot.:D You managed to take a concept that is quickly becoming cliche and take it in an entirely new direction. Pretty soon wedding togs everywhere are going to be cussing you when this shot starts making the rounds on Pinterest and every bride want's a shot just like it.
