I've done a lot of this and I typically shoot at 1/1600 at f4. If the lens went take that bump up the ISO. Lumix GX8 w/12-35 2.8 and 35-100 2.8

And then cropped out all the background so my eyes focus in on the movement of the horse and not the starting gate.
