I have bought the 50mm 1.2 and so far, I love it.

One thing i hardly noticed and that i never thought it would make so much difference is:

This lens is VERY soft – if you dont know how to use it. Even if you focused and you only moved a little bit back or forth the subject will most likely be OOF at 1.2. I was wondering why some shots are incredibly sharp while others are not, until i noticed this.

Never thought that makes so much difference but now, I press the shutter with that lens while focussing. That way it shots right after AF is set properly. Also i try to minimize handshake to avoid these limitations!

That's the trade off with really shallow DOF.

well, the lens is legit soft, even in focus (though I dont have an issue shooting and printing wide open 1.2 shots). Compare it to your 135... that's a sharp lens.

Uhm....why would you need to be specifically told that about shooting at 1.2?

OP,

Yes, a 1.2 aperture at a reasonably close range, has about 3/4 inch of focus.

I was quite a bit disappointed when i first time missed the focus, just because of my 135L xD

But i have very luck, my 50mm 1.2 is a very nice copy and if i hit the focus i get superb sharpness, concurring my other L's..

Try using Servo focus, with the f/1.2 glass just breathing is enough for focus to miss, so you may want to keep the focus hunting until the very shot.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Full press so it shoots right after the AF locked on focus

No haha

I focus how i ever focus but i press the shutter full before the AF beep and the red light shows up in the viewfinder. That way it takes the picture right after the focus is right so a minimum of movements on focus lock can occur.

Are you blaming your trainer for not telling this?...if you are a self learner like most of us here...then you should be happy that you identified the issue and figured a way out of it as well! ... 50L is a very volatile lens and you see more haters than lovers...i belong to later group. You need to practice alot before you get perfect spot-on AF with this lens. Happy shooting!
