This Migrant Hawker stayed still long enough for me to take a variety of different angled shots at varying distances with my 100mm macro lens. Conditions were far from perfect as the breeze made it difficult to focus. I would also have preferred the daylight, as well as my flash, to have been more diffused. Nevertheless, I am quite pleased with the outcome bearing in mind that this is my first attempt at photographing dragonflies.

Great shots for a first timer at dragons, Alex. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Ishrani, I've been meaning to photograph dragons since July but somehow they have eluded me. You can imagine my excitement at seeing this beauty!

Thanks Andres, your dragonfly pics are inspiration and if I get mine looking anywhere near as good I'll be a happy man. I'm working on fine-tuning my flash diffusion in order to avoid the highlights in the eyes.

hmm, they seem a bit blurred, even though your shutter speed seems high enough...

Denis, Brian, George and Paulo, thanks for your comments. Paulo, I agree that the focus on the first shot could be sharper. Perhaps a little bit of motion blur has crept in due to the windy conditions ? This would have been amplified by the closer magnification. Fortunately, I took lots of pictures in order to improve the chances of some of them being in focus and once I have figured out how to embed these images I will put them in another post.
