This herd lives in our area. On this morning they were about 1/2 mile away from the cabin. Had to jump in the car and get on the Alaska Highway to photograph them though, about 500 yards away with the 100-400mm, handheld.

That is quite a large herd. I see one bull -- I assume it must be the initial stages of the rut, and the bull is rounding up his harem. The rutting season probably starts earlier that far north in the Yukon.

Very nice series.

The bugling and rutting have started. However, there was another bull that was startling the herd and causing the running.
He was downhill from the crowd and was being very vocal.

This herd is likely 60-70 animals.

Also saw them a few nights before at about 10:15 p.m. along the Alaska Highway. With the overcast it was getting dark a bit earlier than usual.

Very nice. I really like the next to the last one with the pink and blue sky.
