CORRECTION!
My apologies - I have been convinced that the subsequent images are those of a female Summer Tanager NOT a Scarlet Tanager. It is still a new summer visitor for me, but I wanted to publish this correction so as not to mislead any more than I have to
I'd also still like to see a male pass through.

Ian and Al and John have been posting so many new birds that I just had to jump in too.
I was quite surprised when this female Scarlet (corrected - Summer) Tanager showed up a week or 2 ago as they're considered uncommon summer residents in the metro Atlanta area. I've seen males coming through on migration, which leads to the question as to whether Aug 19 is still summer or early migration? I say summer, but I'll let those who know better than I do debate that point :)

It's a bit of a shame that she couldn't bring a male with her, but that leaves me something else to look forward to. Hope you've enjoyed this look and feel free as always to comment as you see fit.

Those are great shots, Steve; I was visited by a female last year and got good shots, but not as good as yours, methinks; well done.

Terrific shots, Steve. Nice lens too! August 19 is definitely migration time up here, can't speak for where you are :) Now, I hear an eagle screeching outside, gotta go investigate :)(BTW, Scarlet Tanagers are still on my to do list.

Always appreciate the compliments Al. I was fortunate she posed pretty nicely allowing me to get these images in my first attempt.

Thank you much Cheryl....as kind as always. I can only hope a male gives me a chance.

Very kind comment per usual Ian and much appreciated. I wish you luck with the Tanagers and hope you found the "screecher" too.

Nice and sharp Steve! Good job.

I live in Dublin, GA and usually see a female each year about this time, though I've never seen a male. A week or so ago that changed when I had a male and female visit our backyard. This was a real treat.

Keep looking . . . the males are around too!

An excellent series, all are very good. They are a rare sighting in my area, a pair of them have set up residence on my brothers farm and I have photos of the male only and not of this quality. They have been very difficult for me to photograph, staying in the trees with thick leaves and always showing up with low light.
Well done.
