I thought that these photos of one of my favorite activities might be interesting to outdoor and animal photographers. These grass flats are normally dry and baked hard from the sun, but during exceptionally high tides they flood. Redfish take this opportunity come up into the grass to eat fiddler crabs, a process which reveals their tails waving in the air as they root for the burrowing crabs. We catch them with a fly rod and a small crab imitation fly. The average fish is 22-26 inches and they put up a real battle in the grass. Photos are taken with a waterproof P&S because occasionally you step in a hole and fall down, a risk I'm not willing to take with my good cameras. The real beauty is that from this spot I can see the downtown skyscrapers in the distance, and there are over a million people within 20 miles of me.
