The zebra shots the beauty and artistry in black/white photography...which normally doesn't draw me in. This one does.

Pardon my ignorance, but the EXIF is saying F2.8 here. How is so much in focus?

Got the new 70D yesterday and the EP-EX15 works great on it. What a amazing camera this is. Took some high ISO shots today and this thing is head and shoulders above the 50D in it's noise handling abilities. One more day of learning and I should be ready for a trip to the lake.

Their review is pretty positive, shows that it is an improvement in just about every way and is actually pretty close to the Exmor on the D7100. I did think they could have devoted a little more time into OVF tracking and AF...but clearly they were busy testing out the dual pixel AF.

Wasted a lot of time but sure had fun sipping moonshine and firing the flash, as far as waterdrop photography this is kindergarten level but I can see more when the weather turns to crap in the winter:

I don't think Gabe has to worry about competition from me in the birds shots but I did get to plan with a new lens, the 400mm F5.6, first shot with it:

I'm comparing it to the Sigma 120-300mm. They share some traits but are vastly different in others-mainly the weight. After carrying the Sigma daily on the trip for 2 weeks I'm blown away by the weight of the Canon:

@MedicineMan The waterdrop shot is not bad at, they are not easy when done manually! If you really want to do these properly then you need a water drop trigger so you can capture the drop consistently on every shutter action, this then gives you more time to work on other things like lighting etc.

I'm in a photography group (just a bunch of friends) and we have built a trigger ourselves using an Arduino mini computer and a few sensors. There are lots of instructions on how to do this on the net and not too difficult to build :) When we got ours up and running it was soooo much better because every shot captured a drop!

Jason that sounds cool/intriguing...making your own. I did google and found the Cosnysis system for it but that is more than I think I'll get into....did you guys/gals use laser trigger? Regardless it looks like a great area to explore, much room for for interpretation and creativity. Anyway thanks for the kind words.

Some of the ones you buy can be a bit over the top, saying that though, our box of tricks can have many different triggers connected. For the water drops we just use a timer system, you set when the drop should fall (plus a 2nd drop if required), then set the flash to go off a split second later when it hits the water. This s the sequence:

1. Press the button on the box of tricks
2. The room lights go off
3. The camera shutter is opened (set to BULB)
4. The drop is released
5. The flash goes off when the drop hits the water
6. The camera shutter is closed.
7. The room lights go on

I had to look it up. It depends on how far the closest subject is. If you have something 200 feet away using 50mm 2.8, the far limit is infinite. But if you have a close subject in focus, it will cause the background to go OOF.
