it would be great if anyone who comes across 70D reviews (in particular any that compare to the 7D AF system), would post those links...

cheers,

Several 7D shooters are using the 70D instead now. From everything I have seen, it tracks as well or better, and what you don't have are expansion or spot focus. If the camera could do it I would like to see Canon allow spot on the center point at least, but Canon doesn't generally add features to the XXD line.

I couldn't justify the price difference between the 70D and the 7D II when/if it comes out, so for me there isn't really a question about waiting vs owning the 70D.

Palad1n thanks! I'd forgotten about Mordor and that reminds I need to get caught up on the Hobbit series.

yes my friend, the 70D is a likely acquisition... just a matter of time and finances in 2014... This thread has shown me what wildlife and BIF can look like with the 70D and good processing and I've said it before... many look 5D3esque.... ;)

Ok, this is a heavy'ish crop on a not so great bird photo through a window. Its purpose is (for anyone willing) to show me what's possible through a good PP process. So, here's what I've got.

SOOC JPEG:

IMAGE: http://photography.hokiealumnus.com/upload/2014/01/28/20140128154222-a3f185e8.jpg

My attempt with a little bit of effort in LR:

IMAGE: http://photography.hokiealumnus.com/upload/2014/01/28/20140128234526-c0970ad6.jpg

Here is a link to the RAW file (external link).

The photo may just be that bad, but out of morbid curiosity, I'm curious if any of you PP pros can do anyting with it.

Thanks for anyone willing to indulge my curiosity. :)

It's not really a good candidate; focus is on the wood behind the Sparrow so you're never going to salvage much detail there.
Assuming otherwise good technique and the lens had time to settle I'd suggest you might like to investigate micro-focus adjustment. Search for "Dot Tune".

K, thanks. I had borrowed my mother in law's 55-250, so nothing to adjust any more. I'll try to get some shots with mine and see if I have the same problem.

FWIW, it was single shot with a single focus point on its eye, so in theory it should have focused correctly.
