@palad1n: Nice Praque shot! I like it!
@Mediceneman: I still see a lot of dust..euhm...flowerseeds...;)
@Paul: Nice bug!
@Veijo: nice and dreamy pictures! I like the little grashopper(?) in the shots! It's the finishing touch!
@Gruntenstein (Hans): Wow..I like the photo's from Bryce a lot! I've bin there in 2009 and I liked it much more than the Grand Canyon. The one with the snow coming you should print and hang on your wall!
@Keyan: Very sharp and great photos of the airshow! All of them are shot with the 70-300L? It looked if you had enough reach with this lens! The third one is my personal favourite!

I love these...but help me understand something. I thought you couldn't point a DSLR into the sun???

Why not, you CAN point it into the sun ;).
EDIT: I really meant this as a joke as I acknowledge that you shouldn't point your camera towards the sun if you aren't willing to take the risks involved.

I've read about heat issues concerning this (shutter or sensor). I photographed in near zero temperature (Celcius) when the sun was about to set. Kinda comparable with sunset photography. Also the sun was strongly blurred as the lens is set near it's closest focusing distance. So the sensor should survive well from such. With "real" dlsr one could damage eye looking through the optical system, but with live view that should be impossible.

Ah, Live View makes sense...so, I will have to find out what exactly you can or cant do when pointing a DSLR into the sun. I read you shouldnt, but the articles didnt say why! I am guessing that looking through the VF would cause eye damage, or prolonged shutter would cause sensor damage is my only guess. (not sure why anyone would do the latter, but still want to just know the reasons)

I'd think it would be much worse for the camera to use live view and pointed at the sun. The entire time you're doing that, your sensor is exposed to the full strength of the sunlight. Using the viewfinder it will only be exposed for 1/2000-1/8000 of a second. You obviously shouldn't use the viewfinder to look directly at the sun, but I've taken plenty of shots with the sun in the frame with the viewfinder and had no issues at all. I'd never use live view for that purpose.

The manual cautions against it. If you do it you need to avoid prolonged exposure. Remember, a lens is designed to take light and focus it..think magnifying lens and ant.
