Gallery Plaza metro station (Washington, DC). It never ceases to amaze me what we (humans) can accomplish, especially underground like this.

So,Im teetering with indecisiveness. No,really...Im like right on the edge of pulling the trigger. I "want" to pick up a 70D,but ofcourse dont "need" it. Trying to justify going from the 60D. 60D has been an excellent camera (rarely,if ever, use the video function) and I dont really have any complaints. I have read and watched a boatload of stuff on the 70D,and am really attracted to the awsome FPS rate, focus abilities, and excellent autofocus for video (likely why I dont use it on the 60D). 7D is not an option since I love the tilt screen so much,I couldnt live without it. Dont like the layout of any of the Rebels. After selling Peter (60D) I could buy Paul (70D).

But,is the 70D a true "upgrade"? Because of Photoshop and other editing software its difficult (dare I say impossible?) to measure the cameras SOOC image quality, which is my personal measuring stick (a photo from a 20D (small exaggeration, but you get the point) can be processed to look like it came from a 1DX with a skillful PS user).

Not bashing the 70D (want it so bad I can almost taste it lol) nor am I bashing PS or Light Room. Just would appreciate some genuine insite. Has anybody here gone from the 60D to the 70D? What are your thoughts? My biggest concern, that which weighs heavily on me,is IQ. Video is fine and the 70D is great, but I mostly do still. If you DID go from the 60D to the 70D,what do you think? Significant difference?

I recently purchased my 70D and still have my 60D. I wasn't able to put it through its paces until this past weekend and I have to say, I'm impressed. For me, the main difference I noticed right away was the excellent auto focus. The 60D is no slouch when it come to that but the 70D is a noticeable notch above.

I haven't used the live view as much as we were at a fort and an old plantation near Savannah, Georgia and it wasn't necessary for the photographs I took but I have played around with it a bit at home and again, it's readily apparent that it is an improvement. We're headed down further south in Florida for the next week and I'll be using it on various wading birds so I'll be better able to give more feedback in a week or so.

There are several people on this thread who upgraded from a 60D also and have been extremely pleased that they did.

I did. It was worth it, I think.

Dual Pixel AF - made Liveview useful for me. Like you, I never did much video with the 60D. Now I use it all the time. It is also useful for stills, like you say, you like the tilt screen for off angle shooting...now imagine that with a super fast and accurate focus engine and touch shutter (tap somewhere and it takes the shot) focused on that spot.

Other improvements... Wifi is fun. Touch screen is more useful than you would think.

The OVF is a revelation. It is an interactive viewfinder...I cannot stress how cool it is. Seeing your focus points tracking and knowing what the camera is focusing on is amazing. The full time level is great too. I am totally spoiled by it. I had never used one before the 70D so it was totally new for me.

MFA is useful, as are the focus custom settings for things like tracking sensitivity and such. The direct switch for video mode is a small but huge ergonomic improvement. There are just a bunch of small improvements besides the big ones that really made the 70D compelling for me, I am really enjoying using it.

Both lenses >$30 through no-name adapter from eBay. Not the best sharpness, but decent images IMO for suuuper cheap.

I don't know much about the 60D, but I don't think it has a setting for doing "Handheld Night Photos". Here are two examples from my 70D, using that setting. I upgraded from a 40D. I now have a 50D and 70D. This feature is wonderful if you want to do really nice night shots without bothering with a tripod.

Thanks guys for your input.

Ron,you are correct in that the 60D does not have a Handheld Night Photos feature. Thats a super nice feature that I would really enjoy using.

Keyan, your points are one of the things that have me interested in going after the 70D. The feature upgrades are super nice, very usable in the real world. Most of the points you mention I had already found on several (most that I watched) video reviews, just not worded the way you did...you gave the feature a bit more flare and spunk :)

Oddly enough I didnt find a lot of 60D vs. 70D comparisons. And the ones I watched only spoke of the obvious things already mentioned - ofcourse they are all kinda old, done right around the time the 70D hit the streets. Most of the focus was on the new sensor, video upgrade,wi-fi and so on. And ofcourse the focus tracking is great. Those things are nice, but I was hoping for more of a direct IQ-IQ comparison,SOOC. Im hoping in the coming days more will respond to my question and post some shots, direct comparison shots.

I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not too sure.

I don't have my 60D anymore to give you a direct comparison, I would say that purely IQ wise, the 70D is about a stop better from the in-camera jpeg processing. The RAWs are close in terms of noise, but the 70D is easier to clean up. The RAWs clean up easily while the ones from the 60D were more of a challenge.

Here is a 6400 ISO shot from my 70D...
