Because I am very interested in buying a macro lens for my Canon 70D and I am still in doubt whether the IS version is worth the money or saving money and buying the not IS model.

Any suggestion is well accepted.

Fabrizio

I have the IS version, and I use IS when I use the 100mm lens as a general-purpose lens. I don't use IS for macro. If your primary use is for macro, I recommend the non-IS version.

Regards, Jim

Bas - this is an Alder Fly Sialis lutaria. It can be found near ponds and streams with silted bottoms and an abundance of weed or plant detritus. Despite its name, it has no association with Alder trees, other than being found on foliage beside water, which is where Alder is usually found.

Paul.

That explains why I found it near my pond! I found some extra information about the alder on a Dutch Wiki page....

Thanks for the identification :!: :D

hey there.
yes, the rule is:
the lens (alone) can't be the length of a dollar bill.
the lens can't be 100mm or longer.
that's it!

I usually walk in, open the bag, and they say ok.
last night, it took about 10 mins to convince 5 different security experts that an 85 prime doesn't zoom

Thank you for replying.

Ok, I'd use the 100 mm macro only for this purpose.
Besides, I've got the 18-135 IS, the lens in bundle with the 70D, which works fine and for video and travelling this is the lens I am going to use. The macro one would stay at home just for Its own work.

So, I think I male up my mind and I will go for the not IS.

Johnnie,Im liking these shots! Very sharp and it looks like the focus is spot on. But let me ask,how much,if any, processing are you doing? Are these right out of the box? Seeing your work makes me want to go out, like NOW and pick up a 70D. Knowing more details about your work would be encouraging, and helpful.

I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not too sure.
