Lots of great new photos again!

@Rose: Please post your shots! I enjoy your photos a lot!

@Richard: I like your evening shot! Reminds to go running also today.. ;)
@Palad1n/Lukas: nice bokeh!
@Will and JD: Nice BIF action! I still have to find a location where I can practice BIF shooting!
@Lauri: I already saw this one on Flickr...I like it a lot. Can you tell us something how this is made? What kind of ND filter/grey filter did you use for this shot?

Notice your using a 24-105 f4 on your. 70d, is it good as an everyday walkabout lens?

Pollution levels must be low as this was hand held at 500mm and has good definition.

great detail for essentially a full moon.

I only shoot the moon anymore on the nights I can see oodles of stars, meaning the clearest sky

Will, what's your impression of the 70D so far?

Ok, truthfully.

First what I obviously like, in no particular order:

- option for AF micro-adjust
- advanced (7D) AF system**, which does appear to lock on more often vs the 60D (more below)
- ergonomics, including the more comfortable back-button focussing
- movie/live view switch vs 60D
- feels more responsive and snappy vs the 60D (and the 50D/60D was no slouch)
-7 fps (yes, you can distinctly hear/sense the faster fps vs the 60D)
-2 more megapixels vs the 60D with no noise penalty for better cropability factor
- ok, ok, the new fangled video ease of shooting brings me peace of mind but I have not used it yet enough to comment on any benefits noticed
- use of faster SD cards! Apparently the 60D could only make use of 28mb/sec transfer speeds to its card... the 70D can apparently utilize UHS-1 speeds. I'm currently using a Sandisk 80mb/sec card

What I am not certain of, yet:

- I do not yet know how well the 70D can track BIF or action using Center Zone mode in AI Servo. I shoot bird & wildlife & action 80+% of the time and the 70D's Digic5 processor response and brain would have to be pretty damn good for me to trust it with my action shots. I certainly will not use or rely on the "19 pt auto-focus" mode which is essentially green Auto Mode... Which leaves me using the time tested "Center Point" for AI Servo.

The AF micro-adjust feature has been a negative so far - NO FAULT of 70D!
... I have already missed great opportunities due to messing with the MA - including the cormorant I posted a few days ago... I know I have a sharp copy of my 70-300L IS... but the cormorant and other shots are not tack-sharp because (I think) I was testing the MA for too long instead of switching it back to -0-. 70D users: remember the 70D manual states you most likely do not have to use the MA. Try to resist doubting this advise. ;)

All in all I am pleased with the 70D, seriously. Any focus failings thus far are likely as much my fault or more as with the 70D. But final review: inconclusive yet.

** AF system. Apparently the 70D has the same AF system as the 7D, which I can believe, with a few features missing. I have viewed various video reviews and tutorials stating that the 70D is either as good or better at AF versus the 7D. That gives me peace of mind. What is SERIOUSLY LACKING on the internet are recommendations as to how to set-up the 70D for Action shots - namely birds in flight or wildlife!

In fact, in google searches, I'm starting to find My Own recommendations in search results more than anything else because a) I keep asking the question on forums in different ways, and; 2) I have posted my recommendations of Action settings based on my preliminary experiences... which could be wrong to a degree - but there seems to be little or no advice pointing to the contrary...

MA blunders and my AF experimentation aside, I do believe I have had a higher keeper rate vs my 60D. As least I can say I have 'Faith' that the 70D will ultimately give me a higher keeper rate versus my 60D and that is of course why I got it!

[I'll add stuff above as I think of it or as new experiences warrant additional comment]

Nice! I am loving my copy. It's sharp, and I did fall into the same "lets mfa every lens I own because I can!" pit, only to go back and reset most of them to 0 which is where they work the best. The feel is better, the faster frame rates, all in all, I'm impressed with it. I know there a few issues lurking, and the only one that seems to affect me is the bounced flash being a stop or 2 off, but until the fix comes through, it's not a big issue since I usually have my flash set to Manual.

I'm happy to see it's working for you, especially the BIF thing. Also, great link to setting one up!

they may not be that good
face isnt good
his dad liked them a lot
I shor from both sides
he kept turning his head
the attempt before his head was turned rt
before that it was left
If I was on the other side for this national record it would have been perfect
oh well i rolled the dice

I like them! Nice capture..one thing I don't like is you signature because it's messing up your photo. Maybe next time also try to get some shots with the environment included and not only the athlete.

YES! ;) When I'm not on my belly in the grass for my macro shots I mainly use the 24-105 as my walkabout lens. I even sold my Sigma 17-70 for it because I never used it..

Nice 'review'! I also tried the MA when I saw the dot tune video. I tried the adjustment a few times and never got the same exact results. So in the meanwhile I re-adjusted some lenses but I am still not sure the adjustment is ok. So I think I will reset them and see how it works..

I'm going to try your settings for BIF shooting (if I can find any..) and will see if they work for me.
