Thx Hokiealumnus, c&c is allways welcome your right too blue-ish, funny to see when
you see it on the big screen, monitor, smartphone there is always a difference on contrast.

The most important thing is if you like the photo and see it as it was..then it's good! ;)

Still see quality every time I look in this thread, well done everyone.

Here are a few from a quick visit to Brockholes Nature Reserve at Preston on Wednesday - not as good as you birding togs might get, but I was quite pleased to even photograph the whitethroat up here round Preston. And, I know it's reasonably small in the frame, but I like it that way as it gives a good indication of it's size in the branches of a (I think) a hazel tree.

Nice bird shots Paul. The European Gold Finch is one of my favorite birds in Europe. I grew up in Hungary (my parents still live there) and I always found these birds beautiful.

Got up early today to head out to the river to shoot some birds. When I got there I realized that I left both of my TCs at home. I wasn't very happy... So I just shot with the bare lens on the 70D.

Here are some shots, most of them heavily cropped.

All of them shot with my Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS, all shot at 300mm wide open f/2.8.
I missed the focus a bit in the last shot, it was my fault.

I don't offer enough praise on this thread - and I see ample 'praise-worthy images' here daily. Have to do some macro in a flower garden some day.... you folks laying on blankets and carrying speedlights with you? ;)

Paul & Gabe - great captures as always

Gabe - your lighting is always superb and great WB - is it a processing method or do you use a lightsource? All the above are so well lit...

Thanks. It's just careful exposure, and thorough PP :) No external light source, no flash.

your post P is quite skilled, as I've mentioned before.
the quality of light on your subject is a cut above... do you use the Radial Filter in Lr5?

I work with Adobe Camera Raw 8.x and then finish up in PS CS6.
I don't know that filter you're talking about. I do everything manually, exposure, shadows, highlights, contrast, clarity etc. I do not have a one-size-fits-all preset, I adjust everything photo by photo.

I fully understand you not having a 'one-size-fits-all' preset (I do have a Lr import preset adjusting contrast, clarity, saturation, sharpening, and noise on a low level that I have found to add a default level of 'punch' to start things off). Lightroom's Radial Filter was the closest thing I could imagine that you might apply to your images to give them such a lighting 'wow' factor.

No worries - no offense taken. But you're not quite correct. (And no offense intended here either. ;))

According to the manual (page 169), the camera will only fire all the AEB exposures when you are in timer/remote mode. If you are shooting either single shot or a continuous shooting mode, you have to either press the shutter release for each shot, or hold it down until all bracketed shots are taken. It does not automatically fire all bracketed shots with a single press of the button.

Amazing what you can learn by reading the manual!! I had never taken AEB exposures without using the timer (or a remote), and never having read that portion of the manual, assumed one press was all it took. Makes much more sense that in single or continuous you would need to actuate the shutter for each exposure. Thanks for teaching me something new!

Can someone point me to a tutorial or instructions on what size etc for pics and an easy way to upload? From hard drive or from Flickr?

Thanks,
