Canon 70D | Sigma 17-50/2.8 @ 17mm | 1/13 | f/3.2 | ISO 3200

Spent holidays setting up Christmas lights. I think, lights are not captured that well. May be high iso issue.

Well was waiting for me when I got home this evening, one of the filthiest miserable days I have seen in a long time. Spent a bit of time playing and getting used to the new layout from the 50D is gonna take some time but am impressed so far :). Fingers crossed for a little 'daylight' and a whole lot less rain tomorrow.

Khwaja - this the 70D thread - yours signature says a 600D? You are on a 70D now right?

I was in the exact same boat, had at t3i bought a 70d, and actually was so lazy as to think, "I'll wait to update my signature to add the 70D until after I sell the t3i, so I only have to edit it once."

I come here for your expert opinion. Please do not hesitate to critique or edit.

Anyone shoot with reduced raw (mRAW, sRAW) and can report back on number of images available in the buffer?

See the thread I started here for more details.

Paul.

Hi Paul,
I upgraded from 600d to 70D recently. I still have 600d. Do you think, I need to take this pic using further slow shutter speed and lowe ISO's.
It is not capturing Christmas lights properly. I think, they are more defined to eye. Feel free to give me some suggestions.

Thanks

Did you hand hold the camera or use a tripod?

If you put it on a tripod, you can come to 400 or 800 ISO - it will extend exposure time but would increase quality and resolute the image better. If you follow the two-stop guideline for lenses then it would also likely be an improvement going to f/5.6

The buffer issue you mention is worthy of testing, I have never shot less than original Raw so as to get the best image latitude.

Hi Hermelin,

You're boy is adorable, but the pics look soft. For example, the red mushroom in the last pic (I assume it's the focal point, correct?) could be sharper. FWIW, I own a 70D, and sharpness (or rather the lack thereof) is what I've been struggling with the most with this body. It's been more than a year, and I'm still trying to convince myself that it's just me (i.e., my technique, the settings I've chosen).

Hi.

I don't agree. They don't look soft at all. Any of the pics. I could probably sharpen them more but because of poor lightning the noise would come out more as well.
If you find these pics soft, you probably find all pics soft, including your own.

Notice all the details in the moss on the left. Would not be so detailed if the pic was soft, and notice how detailed the hair of my boy is.
