Thx it's a composite of 4 images I took, I saw the storm coming, had the camera mounted on tripod and hoped the hood kept the slowly incoming rain from getting on the lens.
I was sitting in the car while when I saw a lighting strike I pushed the remote, these were the good captures, shortly just before the downpour when the wind really whipped up I called it a "finish" and joined the family hunkered down in our pop-up trailer.
Great memories from a great family vacation.

a few more from the trip

Wait after you saw the lightning you pushed a button inside your car and that was fast enough to capture it?

yes I had my thumb on the remote trigger and captured the lightning, ya gotta have fast reflexes.
Also trial and error on exposure, as far away lightning needs more time/higher ISO, while as the storm comes closer you dial it less or will get huge overexposure, that actually happened on 1 real close strike, it was pure white overexposed. (I always shoot RAW, could not bring it out)

Before the trip I bought one of those "cheap" lightning triggers via Amazon , Price: $79.95 & FREE Shipping

Opteka LTX-80 Lightning/Gunshot/Fireworks & Motion Sensor/Security/Wildlife Trigger for Canon EOS & Nikon DSLR Cameras

Returned it......
My review there.... http://www.amazon.com …l?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00CS3PHZK (external link)

Verified Purchase
I bought this after reading all the reviews, see we were going on the big family vacation, 3 weeks June-20 thru July-12 2014 out west camping at 8 different spots and I knew we'd see some storms so wanted a device to capture lightning.

Well, I got this like 1 week before our vacation.
It worked on motion sensor mode but not lightning mode.

Returned it on 29th day and got full refund.
My advice and lesson learned: Bypass buying this (and it's other branded names of same make).

The buffer issue you mention is worthy of testing, I have never shot less than original Raw so as to get the best image latitude.

Tested and it turned out to be a non-issue. It only affects the display in the viewfinder and not the actual number of shots taken.

Results posted in the thread I linked to earlier.

I'll say this, the step up from my T1i to the 70D was huge.
I shoot family, vacations, kids sports, some wildlife, and of course my passion for astrophotography.

The back swivel LCD screen is really-really helpful for astrophotography, being able to manuver the camera/lens for the shot, while then looking at settings/etc on the viewscreen is a huge plus, no more neck strain!

I've been following this thread lately and enjoying the pictures from this body and those shooting it....Nice shots all!

I've been mainly shooting the T2i for the past several years and have enjoyed it quite a bit (still do). Picked up a used 60D and shot that for about 6 months before selling that off to fund the 70D. Was hoping for some deals around black friday and bit the bullet during last weeks Canon's refurb sale. Picked up the kit w/ 18-135 STM lens. The price point was too good to pass up. Received last night and was happy to discover a lowly shutter count of 61 snaps! :-) Still going through the manual and putting the camera through some paces to get comfortable but hope to be contributing to this thread soon.

Other than some test shots...haven't really had chance to shoot much with this body. Woke up at 3am the other night and went out to living room to see moon setting. Was too lazy/tired to set up tripod so I used a table to brace camera. Was fortunate that the moon started hiding behind some clouds avoiding blowing that out or having to take multiple shots and blend them. Nothing special but my first 'shot' posted here in this thread.

That's quite solid for a 'test' shot! The sunstars in the 18-135 STM are very nice too.

You also have quite a view from your apartment. :)
