great shots folks and welcome to new members ;-)a

pondering what lens to buy with a little Christmas money....

The new EF-s 24mm STM is sharp and reasonably priced, but.... I simply can't think I have enough uses for it.... if Canon came out with an EF-s 17 or 18mm or 20mm STM pancake - 'That' is a reasonable wide angle I would love to keep in my pocket!

Might get the 10-18 STM... any other ideas of a lens in the $200-$350 range with AF?

what gear are you folks pondering for the very near future?

7Dmk II gripped | 5Dc | 100-400L IS II | 55-250 IS STM | 100L f/2.8 IS Macro | 15-85 IS | 50 f/1.8 STM |
Learn to love to do well, and you shall.

I am pondering the EF-S 24 STM myself. I wish this was f2 though. I am considering the older Sigma 30 1.4 as well.

well the price is an attention grabber... what would you mainly use 24mm for?

I go to concerts in small venue couple times a year and have used my tammy 17-50 non vc in past. Have not been crazy with the focus in that environment. Light at one particular venue is horrendous! Hoping the 24 pancake might provide me with nailing focus a bit better in that spot. I do love my Tammy in most situations however. It would be a bit redundant since I have focal lenght and 2.8 covered but...at that price...might worth be the expense.\

If you're looking to go wide...$350 might be a bit of a stretch but, if you don't mind buying used...I'd go for the Canon 10-22. I've seen some pretty amazing deals on them lately. I love mine.

10-18 stm is a little very reasonable priced gem. If you need UWA lens for 70D, it's obvious choice. I did never regret about that purchase.

Did you hand hold the camera or use a tripod?

If you put it on a tripod, you can come to 400 or 800 ISO - it will extend exposure time but would increase quality and resolute the image better. If you follow the two-stop guideline for lenses then it would also likely be an improvement going to f/5.6

Paul.

Hi Paul,
I took above pic without tripod and ISO 3200. I got some cheap tripod to test little bit. I took this with tripod using ISO 100, 2 sec, F3.2. It looks similar to what I got with ISO 3200.
Thanks

Had a bit of knee surgery yesterday but did hobble out in the wee hours of the morning, a bit of poetic licence but used the 70D + Tamron 150-600 + Sigma TC 2.0 + Kenko TC 1.4
