... Does anybody think that moving from raw to JPGs may be a good idea?

only if storage space is limited... Raw preserves more detail and that's only a good thing

For years I have shot in raw, saved in raw, and converted into JPGs only for uploading on the web. I did this with the XSi, T2i, 60D, and now 70D. But I read here that the 70D handles JPGs much better than previous generations of Canon cameras. Does anybody think that moving from raw to JPGs may be a good idea?

I hardly ever shoot in RAW...I don't have the time to edit and clean up every photo I take so I let the camera do a lot of it...also there is a lot more buffer flexibility with jpg. Also the storage requirements are crazy.

I didn't completely understand that..

So did they do all the tests with the 70D? So you can "turn off" the dual-pixel sensor's AF?

Simple question, shoot RAW + JPG and compare... ;)

I always shoot in RAW, but sometimes RAW+JPG is usefull in some situations.

It is a lot to absorb and I had to ask if those tests were for the LCD only - which they were. No, you cannot 'turn off' the dualpixel sensor's AF

That's what I thought (stupid question anyway..). I still don't get what exactly they tested there, haha :)
So they only tested the live view af?

that is my understanding. A weakness on the 70d is that apparently when you are 'tracking' using the LCD you can only take one shot, as opposed to 'continuous burst' mode.

This page was a sneek-peek before they release their Full Review. I don't know if they will have a page comparing the AF system vs the 7D's system... its not a typical test they do - testing view-finder AI Servo and VF tracking...

Their tests were interesting...honestly, I'd never do continuous shooting using liveview, I find the positioning to be too awkward, I would always use the viewfinder. For single shot and video the AF system works great.

Ah, ok. Thx!
From my first reading it seemed like the "actual" AF (I mean photos and through the viewfinder) on the 70D has some downsides in this regard.

I started out with a G12 and everything was shot via the LCD.... so "live view". When I got my 60D, I was sort of shocked at how quickly I took to using the viewfinder. That said, the flex zone focusing box you move around the frame is a very nice concept... no focus and recompose. I haven't read the 70D manual (and obviously don't own one... yet) but doesn't the live view on the 70D have flex zone?

It does...but it also has touch shutter. Tap the subject, click, done. I honestly have no idea why you would use flex zone unless you weren't behind the camera and needed to set a focus box for remote release..and weren't using the wifi app to set up the focus area either..

Keyan,

It just shows my ignorance of how the 70D live view works. And I totally forgot about the touch screen. Since my wife got her SL1, I've come to realize the touch screen isn't just a gimmick.

Yes, simple. I just hoped that somebody who owns a 70D has already done that.
