We went to historic Yates Mill park yesterday, so I'll post some of those photos over the coming days. The clouds were nice and fluffy all day, so we'll start there.

Caught a rainbow in a cloud when the sun went behind it. Couldn't really determine how best to frame it, so I went with this; hope it's appealing.

Took these last month at the Gathering of the Vibes festival. Just got around to doing some pp and posting them. Was up close early on but the heat got the better part of me so I retreated to the VIP tent and decided to shoot from a distance from the shade and a table to rest my cold beer(s) :-) After 5pm...Warren Haynes was on stage in some fashion until after 2am!

Here are some of Yates Mill proper. It's a beautiful old building restored to all its 1756 glory (external link). It's the only park around here that I've seen require commercial photographer permits (external link), so you know it's a popular place. Unfortunately, based on that page, it seems the permits are newly required because some photogs are fools, putting their subjects in perilous positions. Anyway...

Here's the mill itself.

I tried my hand at some 'old' processing this go-round, for obvious reasons.

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/yR75jw (external link) Yates Mill WIndow (external link) by Jeremy Vaughan (external link), on Flickr

The shapes in this last one really drew my attention. This is one of about four that I took, trying to frame in an interesting manner. Since it's such a popular place, I was trying to think of some atypical ways to shoot it. Not sure if it worked as well as it did in my head, but hopefully it gets the general point across.

Thanks Paul...this wreck was subject to a number of theories as it appeared to simply vanish in 1891...one of the theories was that aliens took it...no joke. Another theory was the captain sailed it to another port, painted a new name over it and swore the crew to secrecy. It was considered a "mystery shipwreck" until the last ten years. Normally when a wooden schooner impacts the ocean or lake floor the bowsprit is destroyed, this one survived the impact and thus why I always try to set up an initial shot...fantastic history on the bottom of the Great Lakes. In a day or so I will post a beer bottle I shot from one of Al Capone's numerous parties aboard the shipwreck "Roatarian."

This small wolf spider was on the edge of the back door where a bit of moss is growing - took just a couple, and this one shows it off best - but the mouth has something white in it which I can't tell what it is... Venus 60mm lens, 70D, f/11, 1/200, ISO 200

The leaves are changing here in Colorado, this was two days ago. Planning to go up there for a more extended trip next week, hopefully I'll get a shot or two worth posting.

Here are the last of the Mill photos from our outing. I would love to go back there just me & the camera one day; this is the best I could do without ditching my family. :)

The water wheel was a beautiful setup, rust and all.

The mill's foundation was fascinating to me too; just rock & stilts, with the former in place since the late 1700s. Amazing.

I also processed these with antique/filmesque styling in mind but won't clutter the thread. Instead, check them out over in the "Let's See Your Yester-Year / Filmesque / Creative Processing ! (Share Presets!)" thread by Immaculens. :) Overall, I prefer the color shots, but see aesthetic appeal of the other type of processing.
