I bought the 70d mainly to use for macro but took it out the past weekend to try on BIF and must say I'm very impressed with the AF, fast to achieve focus and very good tracking, just struggling with the exposure as it seems to overexpose when used on the same settings as on the 5D III and 1D IV.

Nice pics!

the 70D may be more sensitive then the average DSLR body. Most tests that I've seen mention somewhat brighter images at the same settings. That is a good thing in my opinion.

There were 2 reasons really. For 1, I needed the funds and 2, the images I saw from the 18-135 were good enough for me. I'm no pro and try not to pixel peep (too much). Is it as sharp? I can't say for sure. Keeping the 15-85 is a good option if you can afford to, then compare the 2 and decide.

Wow, you sold your 15-85? Is the IQ on the 18-135 as good? I didn't think it would be. I was gong to get the 18-135 STM to use when I want to shoot video and then use the 15-85 for everything else that doesn't require my 70-300L.

...maybe I need to reconsider.

Groovy man - there is your video lens  ;)

As for the 15-85mm talk - I had the lens and really loved it for its range and fast AF and I really do miss its wideness... really do. Got the 24-105L and yes I do love it and its a great performer - but - I will feel better when I get the 18-55 STM IS so I can have a wide angle again...

EF 24mm on a crop ain't wide enough... am looking forward to EF-s 18mm...

Yep, nice and light for holding the camera out and using the touch screen while recording video. When I want still photo performance the 17-55 is still the go-to for wider shots, and the 70-300L is still magic for everything further away or macro-ish.

Well really for me it isn't one or the other. I was planning on using the 18-135 for video and the 15-85 for the rest other than longer telephone stuff...since I have the 70-300L I'm pretty much covered for what I do.So I guess that's what I'll do! Hopefully that will be the best of both worlds.

Just a quick ? Any 1 using the 70D with the Sigma 17-50 2.8? If so, how do you like the combo?

If anything I was perhaps 1/250th a second late (!) as the focus is ever so slightly off the eye, but still, first time I have ever caught a stink bug taking off...

Hey Paul, you'd appreciate the big azz spider that was scurrying across the floor today while I was taking a #2.

I'm sitting there going blah blah blah blah and see this blur move. Look over. Jumped up without wiping and stepped on that beast. It's body was as big as a quarter. SO hairy....

I hate you.

Hahaah!

Rick - I have a male spider all lined up if he survives the night (at the moment he is in a large container with a piece of cardboard on it and a few bits of would to hide under...

I love spiders too... just like you... (pmsl)..

Paul.

So, the other day I was doing the same, and out of the corner of my eye I swore my shorts had legs...I looked down fully but didn't see anything, but I couldn't get it out of my head, so I picked them up and sure enough this nice sized house spider takes off towards the wall.

I hate spiders.

I feel odd that I am excited about getting that 18-55...but it is what I am looking for.

My 70D is now my main wildlife body, replacing my 7D. I like the results so far.

Here are a couple of new photos. Taken with my Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS + 1.4 TC and 70-200 2.8 OS +1.4 tc
