This late butterfly, most have gone by this time of year, gave me a few opportunities to get in nice and close. Last sighting was as it went over the fence into next doors garden near the leylandii. Hopefully she will find somewhere nice and warm to settle into as autumn loses it's grip and winter takes her toll...

Great explanation Gabe. I might have to use this when I shoot my Son's hockey games if motion blur becomes a problem. I usually shoot AV mode f2.8 at ISO 1600 or 3200 with +2/3 EC.

Hey Paul, love your macro work!. Do you use manual focus for your macros? Was it in the EXIF and I missed it?

Thanks you Mike, much appreciated m8.

I use both - autofocus and manual, depending on the subject. On these it was manual focus via live view.

The exif for the images are above the first one in my post.

if i compare 600D and 70D :

70D has :

-much lighter, bigger viewfinder (seriously very huge difference)
-weather sealed body with better control, MFA (thanks god i can finally use my 50mm 1.8 with AF after little tweaking)
-Auto ISO extended settings (as gabebalazs already perfectly described)
-19 point AF all crossed (this makes capturing BIF and precious moment possible) + really fast AF liveview
-7FPS with 16-21 RAW buffer (very nice together with more robust AF)
-touch sensitive display (you get used to it very quickly)
-WIFI (you save few bucks for remote control and takes pictures with your smartphone)
-slightly better ISO performance(1600+3200 are usable)

Still 600D is great performer and if you dont plan to shoot fast action photos, i would consider to keep the 600D.

My gaffer brought in to work a spider for me in a plastic Tupperware tub! Said "take a photo of that big bugger!"

It wasn't as big as the ones in my outhouse, but here it is none the less.

I coaxed it onto a house brick on top of the wheelie bin in the garden, but it started to rain pretty hard and I fired of just 2 or 3 shots before I legged it back into the house with my gear! (Don't like rain on my camera!)

The shield bug wandered all over the leaves of my peony shrub before finally pausing just as it peered around the edge of one of the said leaves.

Makes a nice picture I thought.

Thanks - helpful summary. I do like the idea of a larger viewfinder. with the wisdom of hindsight I regretted getting the 600D instead of the 60D which I had tried (lent by a friend). At the time I was using a Panasonic Lumix FZ30 which was extremely light and initially the 60D felt heavy and cumbersome.

The focussing system and ability to more easily get birds in flight also is attractive - as after landscape that's probably my most frequent shooting.

Appreciate the comments - just need to think about the $$$$, and how it is best spent spent.

Paul, more brilliance from you! Love the sheild the most.
Here's a glimpse of my neck of the woods (and via Sigma 50-500, it's what I had with me):

Great stuff on this page everyone! Really considering a 70d. Thinking about trading my 6d for the faster AF and higher fps of the 70d.

Thanks Robert :)

Looks a lot nicer in your locale than the ugly city I live in - it's miles to the first decent bit of countryside!
