And I did look for a refurb 18-55 STM while there, no luck.

Thinking of the 55-250 STM IS?

crazy refurb price from Canon... $129... act fast...

http://www.the-digital-picture.com …News-Post.aspx?News=17363 (external link)

I was an inch away from pulling the trigger but need to sell my 70-300L IS first

An inch away I tell you! :-P

Will,

As good as the 55-250 STM is... do you really think it's better than your 70-300L? My wife uses the 55-250 STM on her SL1. She's about to start using my 70D, I think (without the grip) and might even try the 70-300L which is on loan to our youngest son.

A trip to the very busy Mercato Market in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Understand there was some type of chaos there last week due to some type of explosion. Glad my trip was uneventful!

Hi Kim,

Only better in the sense that "I don't need both a 70-300L and a 150-600mm". The 55-250 is compact, lightweight, and sharp. I will miss the armour plating weather sealing but not the 50mm reach.

For what I can sell the 70-300 for, I can get 2 or 3 desireable lenes. I miss the 15-85 IS... could get it and sell both my 10-18 stm and 18-55 stm. Lots of options.

Really hoping for an 85 f1.8 stm with a closer MFD. Rumours of a 15-85 stm too...

Never owned the 15-85...just picked one up...should have tomorrow. Not sure if I'm going to keep it though. The comments I've read from users were enough to tempt me to try it out.

Mine was from the early days when if suffered from zoom creep pretty good... I sold it - bought the 24-105L... but missed the wide end of the 15-85...

Only time the 15mm end was not wide enough was when I tried to capture a rainbow from end to end... I could have foot-zoomed back to another vantage point and would have got it.

I rarely ever use my 10-18 STM... likely will sell in 2016 especially if I get the 15-18 again. My 18-55 STM is more than wide enough for 90+% of my shooting

Enjoy your 15-85... Fast accurate AI Servo too...

I'll probably give it a workout over the next month. Not sure if the long and short of the lens will be enough to replace my 18-135stm and 10-22mm combo that I usually take for my travel adventures.

.. its funny what a few hours can do... I spend about an hour on the The Digital Picture website comparing lenses and focal lengths and thinking about what would be best for my needs

http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=1&FLIComp=3&APIComp=3 (external link)

My current thinking is the 18-135 STM, sell the 70-300 & 18-55 STM and "maybe" forget the 55-250 STM... :-P :p

and tomorrow - likely different ideas still!  but I will spare this thread my thought process :p ;-)a
