Another very risky shot - quite liked the unreal aspect of this. Was shooting randomly and trying not to look too much.

Rose I have the Tam 70-300, this one-
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …&InitialSearch=yes&sts=pi (external link)
And I actually like the Canon (remember I've only had limited shots with it, it is Poof's now after all) 55-250
better. IQ is samie same but the Canon is lighter, and of course more affordable.
Just one man's opinion.

Yes - that's the one I have, pretty sure. In good light I do get good shots, but it is quite heavy, and I'm finding I don't use it much, and I struggle to hold it still sometimes. I guess I don't look to do birds much these days either.

Thanks for your ideas - worth thinking about, but of course we don't get the great deals downs here in NZ!

Thanks :-) This evening was absolutely idyllic. Shorts, tee shirts, no wind - just glorious! What more could one want ....

oooooohh - even in NZ good prices. Make me feel a bit sick about what I paid for the Tammy now!

Defintiley on my list after selling the Tammy.

Rose, any way you can rent before purchase? Always a good idea as you know.
Good price you say, remember I paid almost $100 cheaper but for a refurb.
Just don't want you ripped off.

Sad news recently that the South Lakes Safari Park in Dalton, Cumbria, may be closing on 9th January due to the council's decision.

If it goes, it will be a great shame, stopping great photo opportunities for visitors, as well as lessening the protection afforded for animals under threat.

Here's one of the big cats I photographed on my last visit...
