Most of the predictions normally becomes a reality due to the more accurate leaks that NR admin receives. A D4x that could possibly exceed 36mp perhaps? A Nikon 300mm f4 VRII is being predicted to come out as well.

D4X? Just to make things really confusing they should go with D1X. ;)

If it does become a reality in 2014, I hope they'll do something similar with the E version. :)

I would too since Nikon is rocking those EXMORs out of the park. :)

Yeah, but they still need a few decent tilt-shifts, or no dice.

Not too excited about the 300 f4 VR, but I'd like to see a D4X.

The real question isn't whether Canon has a 1Ds3 successor around the corner - it's whether they have an Exmor competitor.

I believe they are going Medium Format...

That's actually not very exciting - like all MF cameras (as opposed to digital backs that can be fitted to tech cameras) the lens selection will be very limited, since it will require a whole new line of lenses. And all currently-existing MF cameras - Hasselblad, Mamiya, Phase One and Leica - are sorely lacking in the UWA range.

Basically, a Canon MF body may not add anything that isn't available out there already. Unless, of course, they go CMOS with live view. Otherwise, a new full-frame sensor matching the Exmor and capable of taking Canon lenses (e.g. the full-frame NEX) seems much more interesting, to me as a landscape photographer.

MF has a larger field of view. There are lots of wide lenses for the various MF systems.

Only for digital backs, not for closed systems.

The widest lens for a closed system is 28mm on a 54mm-wide sensor, which is only as wide as a 19mm lens on a full-frame sensor. Most sensors aren't as wide as 54mm, so the angle of view is even narrower.

On a digital back, however, you can put a 23mm Rodenstock Digaron in front of the same 54mm-wide back, giving a similar angle of view to a 15mm lens on full-frame. Or you can even use the H-cam and use the TS-E 17, for an 11.6mm-equivalent angle of view.
