At the risk of sounding like a total newb, why would a lens like this need an STM motor? Is anyone really going to be doing video at a 250mm focal length?
For wildlife video ?

Probabaly mostly will be sold in a bundle with Rebel's, so maybe it doesn't matter. If experience is any guide, the IQ will be excellent and not a deal-breaker for most people. The "kit lens" family from Canon have been improved substantially in essentially every parameter in the last two years, and I would expect this lens would be no exception. EOS 5D Mark III

They have a 70-300mm in USM already, eat into that profit margin? No. STM is the only option. If they go any closer to a 70-200mmL it will eat into that profit margin. They are in the business to make money, not provide us with cool new gadgets at a lower price. lol 1D Mk3 | Tamron SP 35/1.8 VC | Tamron SP 85/1.8 VC

Here is what I wrote over in the other thread: I just got the email from B&H, announcing it. Here's the link to their page on it: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_55_250mm_f_4_5_6_is.html I'd love to learn about how well it works on an APS-H sized sensor. If it will cast a large enough image circle to work well on a 1D Mark 4, then this could be quite a useful lens. I am a bit confused by the following statement: Greatly benefitting this lens' reach is the incorporation of image stabilization, which works to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 3.5 shutter speed steps to support handheld use in low-light conditions. 3.5 stops? I thought that Canon's latest generation of Image Stabilization was good for 4 stops. I am wondering what generation of IS they put into this new lens, if not the most recent one. this thread was started before that other thread.... Andre or Dre

I read it and it's EF-S. I suppose all lenses are categorized under EF. Am I the only one a little annoyed that it didn't say "New EF-S lens"? I know it takes only a few seconds to read. http://www.pbase.com/goldbough

There is nothing like it, save the (very) old 50-200L "Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
