I was walking back to my dorm yesterday and saw that it was snowing a little bit. Then I looked at the sky and thought to myself, "Hey, the clouds look really cool." I took this shot in RAW, but overexposed it a ton (I shot waaaaay to the right). While editing it in Photoshop CS2, I adjusted the exposure, contrast, and saturation to get to the final image you see above. Anyone have any tips for taking better sky/sun/cloud shots? Thanks.

I really like this. Looks like the polarising filter was let out the bag for this one!!

Thanks, but I didn't use a CP for this shot. I had a UV filter on the kit lens, though, which may have created the flare. The deep blue was from the Photoshopping process.

Very well done with the post processing since that's not a CP!. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Well,i don`t think i`m the best person to give you an advice on this as i don`t usualy shoot directly into the sun,i used to though.
Some times i might do , if the sun is realy low (just before sunset/sunrise) but i use ND grad filters to keep the sky from being overexpossed.
I hope that helps.

Would a ND grad help with this sort of shot though? Perhaps a full ND filter would help more, but then I could've used a quicker shutter speed in the first place.

Please help :) Any advice is helpful.

No,in this case a ND grad would be useless.
I think that if your metering was taken directly from the sun (spot metering) or around the sun (partial) your image would come out alot darker.
Either way i would still bracket it bu 2 stops just to make sure.
And always shoot raw.

Ah, yes. RAW was a life saver for this picture. Is there any sort of ND gradient filter that will only darken the corners of the image? If you've seen the show TopGear then you might know what I'm talking about...

Yes i know what you are talking about, but in this case you need to darken the sun, something like a dark center spot.
I don`t think they exsist yet.
I would just try multiple frames layered in photoshop.
