Canon SL1 Question

I shoot with the SL1 and was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what the bracketed number on the lower right of the screen indicates? I was thinking it was total pictures, but that doesn't seem to be the case as every two shots seems to decrease the number by a single digit. I posted a similar question in a different section, but was thinking this may be specific to owners of the SL1. Last night I was attempting to photograph a star trail, and after several 15-20 minute exposures, the camera would not save an image. Instead, when I depressed the shutter that number in the right lower corner just kept flashing continuously. Could it be that my memory card didn't have enough space for that long of an image? Any ideas? Thanks everyone....

The number indicates the possible shots left. It is not 100% accurate, so it is taking a guess based on all the information it knows.

As I said in the other thread, it is probably flashing because you have LENR turned on. If you take a 15 minute shot, you need to wait another 15 minutes before the shot will pop up.

So is it best to keep it on, and allow for an extra 15 minutes? Or turn it off?

I would not be shooting 15 minute astrophotos, so I am probably the wrong person to ask.

I leave it off for my long exposure stuff, but I never go past about 5 minutes.
