Could be. Or it could be one of the hundreds of patents that are filed by companies like Canon every year that go nowhere. The numbers would be in favour of the latter one... ;)

what does it mean? dual ISO? that will just mean they got the idea from the magic lantern guys and made it better.

Except that it's actually recording data twice from each pixel, at different gain settings, rather than just reading once.

I'm not sure it will actually be used, though - with a near-ISO-less system with minimal read noise (e.g. Exmor) it becomes unnecessary.

I think the most interesting thing about it is that it's column-parallel A/D conversion... it's about time Canon joined the game.

Incidentally, the latest on CanonRumors suggests that Canon is moving more into the field of security cameras instead...

I can only hope that their MF offerings are CMOS-based, and that they will be offered as a digital back able to be used with all sorts of cameras and lenses (Phase One or Mamiya-style), rather than an integrated system where you can't use different lenses and bodies (like Hasselblad or Leica). Would love to be able to use a MF back with decent live view, and put a TS-E 17L in front of it via the Hartblei H-cam...

Well, neither Hasselblad no Leica have any real UWA medium-format lenses, so they're both kind of useless to me...
