I'm not used to having to use ISO 12,800 and I was concerned how well the lens (200-400) would focus under low light, but it surpassed my expectations. Canon 1Dx, 200-400, 400mm, ISO 12,800 1/1600 sec, f/4.0.

Hmmmm, let me see. A camera and a lens or brand new Honda Civic... Nice photos!

The camera and lens, of course. Although I would opt for the 300 or 400 with
a separate extender ( if needed ).

You shot this at ISO 12800? And it isn't horribly grainy? Wow...I was expecting the picture to be much grainier than that.

The press photogs I talk to who use the 1DX marvel at its ISO capabilities. They equate noise on the 1DX at say 25,000 ISO to the noise on a 1D MkIV at 2,500 or so. They now don't worry about low light situations. They just dial in what they need to get the shutter speed and aperture they want and fire away.

I applied some noise reduction in the RAW fine-tuning menu in Aperture. But it really didn't need all that much. I shot at ISO 16,000 most of last nights game. I'm just amazed that at f/4.0 in very low light this combination keeps that action in focus.
