Now some words:

Kevan: Odd collection of used wood remnants in the harsh daylight sun. No rhyme or reason to the entropic layout of the wood, and I could not find something, anything, to grab my attention.

M_Six:
Nice pan of a P-51 on take-off. Pans are tricky and f/8 at that distance is still a thin dof, you've done well in overall sharpness. But I'm just not getting the "drama of motion" vibe this pan. Perhaps it's the high sun, I don't know. Nice shot, though.

salmonidae:
Nice balance in exposure, nice colors and midtones. However, the angle of the composition does not work for me, and oddly I keep getting drawn to the bottom hallway and arches. There is great mood, character and lovely lighting there.

Maureen:
Nice capture of the boogie boarder, though I feel disconnected from him with his back towards me. Had he been facing the camera somewhat, I would have more interaction with your composition and feel a slight part of his singular world of surfer and wave.

teekay:
Even though you composition has some hot-spots due to harsh daylight sun, I get a warm feeling from your picture of a man on a bench spending time with the pigeons. The hot spots do not detract for me from the gentle moment you captured, and I can experience it now. A well captured "moment" is simply that, minor flaws and all.

Mark:
Yes Mark, in macro f/8 is quite thin, and you've captured all relevant elements (the grasshopper and the screw) within that tiny dof. Good exposure and use of ambient light.

kbColorado: Freedom. The range is open as far as the eye can see, bordered by a picturesque mountain range. Freedom. The horse stands tall, not shackled by man, institution or fad. Strands of hair in the horse's flutter in the gentle breeze, this embodiment of freedom dares of me the same. Well done. I just wonder how a monochromatic treatment would have rendered this moment.

These are just my views and perspectives as applied to how I see your photographs; there is no right or wrong and each viewer is different.

Thank you.
Jason

Thanks, Jason, and I was all too aware of the blown highlights. The lighting was a real challenge and the original RAW and derived JPEG both needed a lot of processing to get the image presentable.

Thank you so much for feedback - makes the whole process seem a lot more worthwhile! I agree that the composition isn't quite ideal, but I am glad you liked the colours and lighting! :)

Thanks Jason for taking the time to comment on all the entries and for the kind words. I'd chosen this other shot from the same shoot to process in b/w. The light and sky were just perfect that afternoon.

Yes. This conversion would have really knocked my socks off with your submission photograph.
