I was so pumped to shoot this weekends wedding. The bride/groom fit my style. The venue was awesome. Everything was in my favor... until I saw the weather report: 20 to 30 mph winds all day, 90% humidity with a high of 96. Ouch. I guess this is rather normal for eastern South Dakota though.

Starting early, I was hoping we could catch a break sometime during the day, but the wind didn't let up and I wasn't about to risk it with a higher end client. However, even with the delays and poor weather, the timeline actually worked in my favor, being able to shoot the bride and groom formals right at sunset... The mosquitoes were out of control, but lighting made up for it.

I feel bad for you folks that have to deal with this weather on a normal basis. Us Colorado photogs are spoiled with our 0% humidity and 300 days of sunshine every year.

I did not. Should have. Would have made a cool album spread.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Colorado weather is pretty identical to western South Dakota in the Black Hills where I live....but lately, it's sounded a lot more similar to eastern South Dakota with high humidity! I believe it was 96% this morning here. I guess that is why we have the most cases of the West Nile virus this summer thus far haha.

On a more relevant note; great photos! I really like that last one. I am a sucker for wider shots though.

High end client...
High end photography.

Can you share a little more info about image 3.

It looks like you were shooting from a bit of a distance utilizing the sunset's cast.

These are all excellent.

Thanks for sharing.

It was taken at a bit of a distance with the 85mm 1.2 at f/1.4. The sun had just set, which made the overcast sky into a huge softbox, as you can see by the catch light in her eye. Other than that, there isn't anything I did. No additional lighting or tricks, other than being in the right place at the right time.
