I don't understand why he just doesn't hire an attorney and let the attorney handle the case.

IMO, no good will come out of him going public about it, except for the attention he is receiving.

Most of the time when someone goes public like this it is because they didn't register the photographs and suing in court will cost too much money so they resort to higher ground and think the public outcry will make the infringer pay up.

Giving a grace period or trying to scuttle the entire case? My attorney would never recommend me saying or posting anything publicly if I was in the process of filing suit.
