I'm in a bit of a pickle,

I recently sold my 500d and upgraded to a 6d and I still have my 7d
When I'm shooting people (ie weddings) I will use my 70-200 f2.8 on my 6d and my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 on my 7d, that's fine, I'm happy with that combo,
. . . . but when I'm shooting sports I want the extra reach of having my 70-200 mounted to my 7d and I thought my 17-50 tammy was suitable for full frame but it's not!
I need a wide(ish) angle lens suitable for a full frame camera but I don't have much of a budget

any suggestions?

Thanks
Jason

17-40L if you can live without 2.8.

Otherwise maybe a sigma 35mm or used 35L, 35 f/2 or 40mm 2.8.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 will be just as wide on FF as the 17-50 is on crop. It is also faster, sharper, has less distortion and is 1/2 the price of the 17-40. I got mine used for $320.

Dedicated APS-c shooter. Gripped 60D, 60 2.8, 10-22, 15-85, Σ70-200 OS and a big white something or other! Plus a 5D w/28-75.

Hi jason,

have you tried the second hand market like perhaps ebay?

See you had a wide angle zoom, I would suggest you look for a used 17-40L is you wonna go for Canon, its a fantastic lens. The Sigma 12-24 is not a bad choice either.

Thanks friends, that's some food for thought. I will keep an eye on the used gear market, unfortunately here in New Zealand the pickings are slim.

Check gumtree Australia, you may find someone willing to post across the Tasman.
In any event, grey market imports from Hong Kong are actually competitive with second hand prices these days, so I suggest you check eBay for grey market lenses. I assume the price situation is similar in NZ.
