If the light difference from brights to darks is wider than the sensitivity of the sensor, you should consider exposure blending, one shot for the brights, one for the darks. It's an easy fix in Photoshop. I would recommend a soft GND filter if you have one instead of exposure stacking, but that's because I hate post-processing.

The sharpness is emphasized in the rock and the grass. It gives a sense of loneliness/isolation when contrasted against a sky-background. Fix the exposure issues, and you have a shot.
