Another image from the most recent expedition to Karijini which is in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

You converted to black and white because the sky was blown? If the light difference from brights to darks is wider than the sensitivity of the sensor, you should consider exposure blending, one shot for the brights, one for the darks. It's an easy fix in Photoshop. I would recommend a soft GND filter if you have one instead of exposure stacking, but that's because I hate post-processing.

I like the shot itself for content. The sharpness is emphasized in the rock and the grass. It gives a sense of loneliness/isolation when contrasted against a sky-background.

Fix the exposure issues, and you have a shot. All my opinions.

Thanks for the post.

I chose to convert to mono for an alternative artistic treatment and looking at the histogram I'd say the sky is a bit hot, but not blown out. I agree the darkest areas are a bit dark. The original exposure contains details in these areas.

Don't tell anyone, but the sky isn't the real sky, I've shopped that in.
