Another stupid question from yours truly. Can anybody please tell me how to straighten images in PSE3 please. I tried it once and a new window appeared which enabled me to straighten by degrees but I cannot remember how I got to this window.
What happens at the moment is that I click on straighten, in the Image bit at the top, and the image moves very slightly but not to a straight/level plane.
Thank you.

In CS2 I use the ruler tool, I drag it along the horizon. Then I use image -> rotate -> Arbitary, it puts the right angle in, I hit ok. Then just crop and you're done.

it puts the right angle in

I wouldn't mind getting it to do that. I follow the same technique in CS2 but I have to fill in the amount of rotation I require - usually several times until I get it right. Is there a setting in options or tools that you know of?

Don't think there's any settings. Use the ruler, it works out an angle, it's automatically put into the rotate dialog for you.

You can also use the ruler alongside something vertical. It works either horizontally or vertically.

The other simple rotation method is to use the crop tool, drag the crop box out to the size you want, move your cursor outside that box, click and drag around the box to rotate it left or right until it looks straight.

That is the bit I am having trouble with.

I use the ruler and drag it to the horizon. I then select the arbitary rotation but the pop-up that appears only has the last entry I made - not one worked out automatically by PS

The PS help screen says:

Arbitrary Rotates the image by the angle you specify. If you choose this option, enter an angle between –359.99 and 359.99 in the angle text box. (In Photoshop, you can select CW or CCW to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.) Then click OK.

I am fine putting in a value - I was just looking for the automatic calculation.

Thanks.

Yep, that's what I do.

It must be one of those features that's left out of Elements. In CS and CS2 it auto-populates the angle value.
