Some local scenary I discovered this afternoon during a short drive. The area reminded me of a place where horse rustlers and train robbers might have hidden out from the law many years ago. I tried to give the photo an old look.

Creepy looking place. Even more eerie if you turned this into a night time shot

Plus a lantern in the window and smoke coming from the chimney. I just may have to work on that. :D

I got stuck, still am, on a really long crisis bridge for work, so needed something to keep me awake :)

Like the DOF Doc. It certainly does give the feeling that it is a hideaway.

I like the subject but the photo looks blurred to me. I also feel the POV makes it feel like less of a "hideaway" since the open space around it makes it look very, well, open. A more intimate shot with the hut more tightly framed by the surrounding trees would have increased the tension and sense of secrecy.

I think the sign on the wall should go if it's to be a hideaway. I like Tmoore's edit except for the smoke - it is straight and doesn't look right.

Thanks for the comments...and edit. I agree that the sign should be removed so thanks for the suggestion. I added a radial blur to the edges of the image in my attempt to make the photograph look old as well as vignetting. I"ll rethink that option. I also thought that the cabin looked isolated enough since there is no paths, driveways or roads leading to it and that it was almost surrounded by trees. I see that the open space, especially behind the building takes away from the isolation I was trying for.

I also found it soft Gene, not sure why? Also wondering about the treatment of color.I am such a fan of B&W, I have a feeling you will be re-visiting this one;)

:), was thinking of a hotly burning fire, and you pixel peepers might want to look closer at the window :)

Keep in mind this was also around 5 am, and I'd been up since 6 am previous

If I were printing this for display, I'd seriously consider leaving that face in the window and fading it out so it was just barely visible. You could easily convince people that you inadvertently captured an apparition. :p

Well, you caught me...there's some motion blur with the image. It had been sprinkling from nearby thunder showers when I got out of the car and by the time I was trying to compose/shoot, the rain started to come down in big fat drops and started to rain harder. I was in a bit of a hurry to get back into the car

Here's my edit. I went with the night theme, added smoke to the chimney and added a little light coming from inside too. I also changed the crop and removed the sign.

I'm not sure I'm happy with the night look yet though.

Oh, and I did notice the apparition in the window earlier too. :D

Smoke looks good in that one^^^.

I was thinking darker exposure especially the areas framing the house, and a yellow light rather than orange...this would be a great image to submit into the "Before & After" competition thread.

I've watched too many action movies. That shack looks like it's moments away from being blown to smithereens, right after the good guy escapes by diving through the window.
Nice shot.
