Last edit is great Gene. Thought about adding a couple of nags outside?

Well, you caught me...there's some motion blur with the image. It had been sprinkling from nearby thunder showers when I got out of the car and by the time I was trying to compose/shoot, the rain started to come down in big fat drops and started to rain harder. I was in a bit of a hurry to get back into the car

Here's my edit. I went with the night theme, added smoke to the chimney and added a little light coming from inside too. I also changed the crop and removed the sign.

I'm not sure I'm happy with the night look yet though.

Oh, and I did notice the apparition in the window earlier too. :D

I'm intrigued now by this image :) I like your edit here but it looks for lack of a better way of putting it fake? The smoke I like the light in the window I like the overall look I don't...

Tips on how you did the smoke, I'd really be interested in :)

Smoke looks good in that one^^^.

I was thinking darker exposure especially the areas framing the house, and a yellow light rather than orange...this would be a great image to submit into the "Before & After" competition thread.

Thanks. I think the only way it would look good darker would be if I crop tighter so that some detail is left to be seen. For the light, I felt that since we are seeing what is reflected from the (probably grungy) walls and not a light/lantern itself, it should be a more subtle darker orange color. By the way, did you notice the light reflected off the ground below the window too?

I've watched too many action movies. That shack looks like it's moments away from being blown to smithereens, right after the good guy escapes by diving through the window.
Nice shot.

Ha! I think I saw that movie too! ;)

Thanks. Actually, I have thought about adding a couple of horses tied up nearby...hmmm.

Interesting comments. You like the edit, you like the smoke, you like the light in the window (did you notice the light reflecting on the ground outside the window?) but overall, the image looks fake. :D I think that only leaves the "night look" of the image or the composition. As I mentioned, I think I could make the night time seem more realistic but I'd want to zoom in more so that the overall look had no detail/contrast to speak of.

The smoke was done using a custom 'smoke' brush that I created using photoshop.

The tree behind the house is too green unless you're going for an eerie effect. Well, you are; the question is what kind of eerie. The bright green makes the whole picture look colorized, like those old photos that were unevenly hand-tinted.

You're right, to look more natural, the only color should be caused by the light source inside the building and it's reflection on the ground. As I mentioned, I wasn't really sure if I was happy about the night look. Right now, my edit looks more like they do it in the movies. ;) I'll probably reduce saturation on everything but the light source and reflection even more at this point.

I like it. I thought I'd have a go w/ it as well. I went w/ the old, discovered photo feel...
Thoughts?

:o I meant "flat" not "fake" sorry about that :D I'd be interested in getting that brush :)

A little more punch and different crop I think maybe?

Very nice! if we could merge Navy's shack with the light and smoke into this, and no sign I think this would be killer!
