The cold winter days have forced me to search for indoor subjects. Here I've tried to create a shot that has some of the fundamentals I've been reading up on- line, texture & pattern. In some spare time at work, I discovered this shot. Let me know what you think. I converted it to B&W because I was more interested in the tones, texture & pattern and not so much the colours. What do you think?

It might be better if you used a shallower depth of field to focus on a few, rather than them all. Are they wood? Maybe if you got closer to some, we could see the detail.

Thanks for the comments Rob. I think it is a chaotic pattern that keeps the eye busy- maybe too busy, but that was what I felt when I took the shot. I actually twisted the parts which were perfectly aligned to get them out of alignment. Looking at it now, I wish I had arranged them in a spiral form to lead the eye up and down.

I tried several shots with a shallow DOF, but I prefered the shots where everything was in focus- keeps the eye moving (maybe too much). These are steel gears- about 6" in diameter and 1" thick. As for getting closer- I have a 24-70mm Macro lens on order that should open a whole new world of "close-up" photography.
Thanks for the comments Graham.
