Some shots from this afternoon. This is the 1st dragonfly I've had a change to shoot this year. The little lizard I see around all the time.. just some quick snaps.

Sigma 150mm macro

Thanks for looking.

What lens is that? The bokeh is super-smooth.

Ah ok, thanks.
Presumably the extra focal length means you're less likely to startle insects as well?

Well... not so much. You still need to get in close. For the shot where the dragonfly is fairly large... I was about 2 maybe 2 1/2 feet from it. You could step back and crop a little more but this was pretty much framed/composed in camera.

Beautiful images. The dragon is gorgeous and the lizard really does have Arizona all over it, particularly #4 with the colour hues. :)

I suppose, but then two and a half feet is a lot compared to my lens. I have the 60mm f2.8 which is a great lens but to frame it in the way you have I'd need to be closer than that.
I usually have to be lucky to find a very chilled out dragonfly.
Or often what happens is that I creep up on an insect and shoot it from every possible angle in joyous disbelief that it's staying so still for me, only to get home later and find out that it had just died.
Or it had two legs missing, yuck.
