Oh boy this lens is awesome I used to have the 35L sold it to get the sigma 18-35 1.8 but it was to heavy for me when I put in the backpack. So I sold it and wanted something light and around 35 mm so I decided on the 35 f2 is was thinking about the sigma 35 1.4 but like the is on the canon and it feels very light. I was kinda worried about not that great reviews but for me its sharp as knife and very accurate focus I love this lens I always stopped my 35L down to f2 and up anyway great lens thank you canon.

Is this the 35mm f2 with or without the IS? The IS version usually is the "oh boy" lens.

I know how you feel. I just bought the 24mm f/2.8 IS USM about a month ago. It is excellent wide open. I didn't think the IS would be helpful at 24mm, but I get keepers at 1/4s. I use it on apcs and ff, so I find it to be a very versatile piece of equipment. I used to have the old 24 2.8. I found it mushy until f/4, f/4.5 was better.

Canon's new crop of wide IS lenses (24, 28, 35) is very good. They are only expensive until you contemplate the 24L and 35L, which I could not justify. If anyone is contemplating a prime in this range, give theses lenses serious consideration. Really, I don't work for Canon.

Dedicated APS-c shooter. Gripped 60D, 60 2.8, 10-22, 15-85, Σ70-200 OS and a big white something or other! Plus a 5D w/28-75.

Interesting since I keep reading the 35 f2 and 28 f2.8 not being that sharp in customer feedbacks. Are you able to post some 100% crops wide-open? Just curious...

I've got the EF 28 IS, and find it nice and sharp from wide open.
I had the old EF 28 non IS for a while as my main lens on the 60D and always thought it was good (albiet noisy AF) giving decent IQ... well the new IS version is just so much better.
It is expensive, but I shopped around and found a brand new one for a decent price.

Congratulations on the new lens, Dan, and the fact that you were able to choose between the various options to begin with!!

Congrats. I am eyeing this lens too as an upgrade to my 30/1.4 EX that would work on both FF and crop.

From the review I read at TheDigitalPicture the 35 f/2 IS is a very good lens and while priced on the high end it delivers excellent quality. I actually forgot about it and will need to reconsider whether or not to go with it or the Sigma 35 f/1.4.

Give the canon 35 f2 is a try if your looking for a 35mm lens was debating between the 28 2.8 is and couldn't justify paying around 600 dollars for a 2.8 prime lens the f2 aperture comes in handy when needed.
