As I understand an fd- eos adapter without the correction lens will not allow infinity focus. This is no issue for macro so I have considered the 50mm FD f/3.5 macro lens by canon. As I understand it has excellent field flatness and it looks baffled on the front in a way quite similar to the mpe-65mm. Has anyone on here used the 50mm f3.5 macro? Im not sure what the magnification ratio is for this lens but I have some extension tubes on standby so I am hoping to at least achieve 1:1 magnifications, it will be good to have a nice sharp dedicated macro.

I have used 50mm FD macro in my EOS bodies, mainly with FD bellows. It has 1:2 magnification and with 25mm extension magnification is 1:1. For higher magnification ratio you can use FD reverse rings that are easily available f.ex. from ebay.

50mm FD macro has very long focus rotation, so I find it very nice for macro use since sharp point is easy to find. I couln'd find too much IQ difference between 50mm FD macro and 50mm EF compact macro. For the money 50mm FD macro has good value.

Cool thanks for sharing. The one I am looking at comes with extension tubes. The macro version of the 50mm fd has an extra element designed to keep the field as flat as possible. I am trying to avoid going back to reversed lenses due to the very small working distances.
